Dr. Tracy Stein was born in Los Angeles, but grew up in San Diego, moving to Davis in 1995. The thought of becoming a veterinarian has been top of mind, since she was 8 years old. She remembers having a parent come to her classroom to discuss what a veterinarian did and vividly remember the abdominal radiographs that showed a dog had eaten a rock. At that young age, she knew she wanted to be able to help animals and found her passion and drive to pursue a career in veterinary medicine.
Dr. Stein received her Bachelor degree (Animal Science- 1998) and Master’s degree (Animal Science-2000) from UCD. She received her veterinary degree from UCD – 2004 graduate. She then completed an equine internship at Loomis Basin Equine Medical Center and then pursued a mixed animal practice in the Marysville/Lincoln area. Eventually, moved to owning her own equine ambulatory practice and practicing small animal medicine, part time.
Originally, Dr. Stein joined Atlantic Street as a technician in 2000 and rejoined the practice in 2009 as an Associate Veterinarian, with a temporary relocation to Minnesota (2011-2014) to support her husband through a veterinary surgical residency. Dr. Stein’s true passion is emergency medicine, and working with such a strong team to provide exceptional care for the pets that visit the hospital.
Her husband, Dr. Justin Uhl, is a board-certified veterinary surgeon, and they have two children together. Typically, they like to vacation together and when time allows, she loves to ride horses. Currently, the Stein household has 3 dogs (labrador, jack russel and chihuahua X) and a cat; they are constantly making her laugh and keeping everyone on their toes.
